Nature’s Prescription

The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely, or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature, and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature. I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles Anne Frank

I love the quote above, and I’ve found it to be true. When I’m feeling stressed, one of the quickest ways for me to recharge is to go off to a quiet place outside and soak up the beauty of God’s creation. There’s nothing like the sun on my face, the warmth of a gentle summer breeze, and the birds singing to make the cares of life drift away.

Today was one of those days. I had a lot of heavy things weighing on my mind. I decided I needed a mental health break. I turned off my cell phone, grabbed my Bible, and went outside to my favorite place by the pond to pray, read scripture, and ponder life. Nature did not disappoint!

I was serenaded by the melody of bird songs resonating throughout the woods accompanied by the trickling of the creek next to the pond. Towering trees danced in the refreshing summer breeze, which created a masterpiece painting against the canvas of the bright blue sky and billowing white clouds. The steady hum of the locusts reminded me to savor these final weeks of the summer season before fall arrives.

I felt like a new person following my mini vacation in nature. The stress melted away, and I returned to the house ready to work on some projects I needed to complete. Nature is a powerful prescription for whatever ails you. And it is free and causes no side effects. God created a beautiful world for us to enjoy!

Are you feeling overwhelmed and stressed? Leave technology behind and get outside. Pray, read a few passages from the book of Psalms, and inhale deeply of the fresh air. Rejoice in nature’s beauty and allow it to refresh your weary and burdened soul. You won’t regret it!

The Heaven’s proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship.  (Psalm 19:1)
